The Association of Young Researchers of the Alpes-Maritimes (AJC06) is delighted to invite all PhD candidates to an evening at the opera: La Fille de Madame Angot. The performance takes place on Saturday 28 September at 8 pm at the Nice Opera.
A worthy heir to Jacques Offenbach, the composer Charles Lecocq wrote in La Fille de Madame Angot a virtuoso score full of joy and mischief. Much more than light entertainment, it is an ode to hope and renewal.
A huge box-office hit in the late 19th century, La Fille de Madame Angot is rarely performed today. Won over by the irresistible energy of the score, Richard Brunel brings Clairette Angot and her friends from Les Halles back on stage. To make the love story and political plot feel current again, the director of the Opéra de Lyon moved the action to Paris in May 1968, when artistic effervescence and political protest were at their height. Libertarian slogans and nods to the French New Wave breathe youth into the work, given fresh energy by conductor Chloé Dufresne.
Performed in French, with French and English surtitles
Join us for this special evening of culture and good company. Don’t miss the chance to share this unique moment with other young researchers from the region. Come along and get ready for an unforgettable night at the opera!
Tickets offered by AJC06, booking required.
